Collaboration and communication at heart of fifth annual research conference

    3 September 2025

Researchers from across the 91ÇÑ×Ó Adams University community have joined together to discuss their work, share ideas and explore collaborations at an annual conference.

The fifth annual 91ÇÑ×Ó Together Research Conference was held today at the University and showcased the wide variety of research being carried out at 91ÇÑ×Ó Adams – by academics, technicians, Postdoctoral Researchers, PhD students and more.

Four sets of oral research presentations were held throughout the day – with a host of topics and disciplines covered.

Among the research explored in these lectures were the sobering lessons we should be learning from cold war food strategies hand what they mean for  the UK’s current food security, some early results from an ongoing investigation into wearable technology for dairy cattle, an introduction to a wider research project looking into the use of animals in education, and an exploration of soil’s role in climate change mitigation – and why it cannot be treated as the only solution.

Professor Dawn Arnold, Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Research Culture, said:?“This was a our fifth annual Research Conference – a landmark event which certainly helps showcase the breadth of research which is carried out across our various departments.

“The conference was a great event and seems to get better every year - and we had 16 speakers, 23 poster presentations and 95 delegates.

“Bringing together researchers in person helps spark new ideas and new research, and it was great to see PHD students speaking at the same event as senior academics – as well as the excellent support from technical and facilities staff who attended.”

During lunch and in refreshment breaks, attendees also had the chance to view the wide range of poster presentations and talk to the researchers behind them.

Among the topics covered in these presentations were farmers’ attitudes towards the police, rapid rooting in lettuce, combating canine obesity through science, and how animals’ personalities can be incorporated to help promote positive welfare in zoos.

Professor Arnold added: “An event like this depends on so many people to be a success and I’d like to thank them all, particularly the team in the Research Office and those who volunteered to be presenters and chairs. We’re looking forward to next year already!”
